Ryan Reynolds Workout

Ryan Reynolds workoutIn the late 1990’s and early 2000’s, Ryan Reynolds was a guy known strictly for comedy. He had a great delivery, and was always entertaining, but I doubt many would have expected him to become an action star. Fast forward to the mid 2000’s, and Mr. Reynolds is a burgeoning, legitimate action hero (while still maintaining his sense of humor) and he’s being noticed not just for his wit but his action hero body as well. But, how did he do it? Read on to learn more.

Most people’s first exposure to Ryan Reynolds was probably Two Guys, a Girl, and a Pizza Place or, possibly, Van Wilder. While never out of shape, he was pretty much a tall, skinny, lanky guy. That was until 2005 when he co-starred with Wesley Snipes in the third film of the Blade trilogy – Blade Trinity. Reynolds’ character, Hannibal King, along with his equally fit co-star Jessica Biel, teamed up with Snipes’ vampire hunting character, Blade. King was meant to be a guy who could kick vampire ass while also cracking-wise. To make this as believable as possible, Reynolds was required to pack on muscle. It just wouldn’t have worked as well if he’d just been a skinny guy staking the undead through the heart.

To get in shape, Reynolds worked with Hollywood trainer Bobby Strom. Strom put Reynolds though a grueling program that lasted for five months. Strom trained both Reynolds and Jessica Biel six days per week, with a combination of weight training sessions and lots of cardio. Kick-boxing, Pilates, and yoga were also used to mix things up.

Diet consisted of lots of protein as well as plenty of good carbs. Reynolds has been often quoted that the whole low carb thing is a joke, and that you need a decent amount of carbs for energy. The key is to make sure that you are taking in proper carbs like oatmeal (steel-cut if possible), whole grain breads, and brown rice.

Protein should come from lean fish and meat as well as cottage cheese. Most interviews and articles about the Ryan Reynolds workout mention that he eats a lot of salmon.

Reynolds usually weighs twenty or so pounds less in lighter comedic and romantic fare like The Change Up, but bulks up again in his superhero roles in movies like The Green Lantern and X-Men Origins: Wolverine.

Ryan Reynolds workoutIt’s tough to get an exact outline of the Ryan Reynolds workout. I don’t think the trainer wants all the secrets to be known. But, you can get a workout that works just as well without paying for a Hollywood trainer.

It’s called Visual Impact Muscle Building, and it’s the only workout that I’ve found that will get you the look of a lean, muscular action star like Ryan Reynolds without looking like a roided-out bodybuilder. It’s a great workout that I personally do and highly recommend. It has great short but intense (and fun) workouts.

Ryan Reynolds

Ryan ReynoldsRyan Reynolds is Canadian and grew up in Vancouver.  As a teen he starred in Hillside, A Canadian soap about teens.  Nickelodeon purchased the show, changed the name to Fifteen, and played it on American cable.
Ryan has since appeared in more than 25 films.

Nickelodeon canceled Fifteen in 1993. Ryan Reynolds continued to act after the show ended, albeit it in small parts on Canadian TV. Reynolds decided that maybe acting wasn’t for him and considered a career change.
But, he listened to a friend who was also an actor and decided to try things in Hollywood. During his first night there, his car was stripped. Reynolds had no choice but to drive around in the vehicle without any doors.

Ryan Reynolds Big Break

His big break in Hollywood arrived when Ryan Reynolds got a starring role in Two Guys, a Girl, and a Pizza Place, a situation comedy. The show was a minor hit and played for over 80 episodes.

Ryan Reynolds made it into the movie going public’s consciousness with Van Wilder, a National Lampoon film. Playing Van Wilder himself, Reynolds was cast as a hard partying college kid. Van Wilder made Reynolds famous enough that he got free drinks in bars for years after.

Van Wilder established Ryan Reynolds as a comedic actor and he has been in many. Just friends demonstrated Ryan’s physical comedic ability. Jason Bateman and Ryan teamed up for laughs in The Change-Up in 2011. Jason Bateman and Ryan Reynolds were great in what has become a Hollywood cliche – the character ‘switch’.

Ryan Reynolds isn’t stuck in a comedy rut, though. It’s just about as likely to see him in an independent drama or big budget comic book flick these days. In 2005, Reynolds starred in the frightening film The Amityville Horror.

Buried found Reynolds inside a coffin for most of the movie and Smokin’ Aces had a great dramatic role for him.

Ryan Reynolds: Action Star

The comic book craze has caught up with Ryan Reynolds and he has several comic based films in development. Blade: Trinity was great combination of Ryan Reynolds comedic and physical abilities. He then battled Hugh ‘Wolverine‘ Jackman in X-Men Origins. Deadpool is the name of the character Ryan Reynolds was cast as and the character will be seen in his own highly anticipated movie soon.

Reynolds got to star as a major DC comics character in the mega budget sci fi Green Lantern film. Hal Jordan will return again in Green Lantern 2.

Jeff Bridges will be teaming up with Ryan Reynolds in the Rest in Peace Department (R.I.P.D) – yet another comic book property. The Flash – the speedster from the Justice League – is another character that Reynolds would love to portray on celluloid.

He didn’t just emote in these movies – Ryan Reynolds also built up his body to look the part. Ryan Reynolds workout has become a hot search term since he has gotten in such excellent shape. Ryan Reynolds has been on countless magazine covers as a result of his fantastic physical condition.

Ryan Reynolds Love Life and Beyond

A downside of his growing popularity is that Ryan Reynolds has drawn the attention of gossip sites and magazines. His short lived marriage to Scarlett Johansson received tons of coverage as did his time spent with singer Alanis Morissette. Sandra Bullock and Charlize Theron are two other high profile actresses the tabloids have tried to link him to. Ryan Reynolds is working on several new movies and will be seen in a theater near you for many more years.
